FAQ’s. We may have the answers to your questions already.
How do I proceed if I want to book a luxury yacht charter?
Things always begin with a detailed personal discussion in which you tell us what you have in mind and we present our first proposals to you: locations, yachts and crews. We also answer the questions which you are sure to want to ask.
What choices do I have in terms of yachts and charter areas?
Thanks to our global network, we can access a great variety of luxury yachts in the most attractive charter regions worldwide, motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans of all sizes and styles. Just tell us, what you want and where you would like to go on a cruise and we will find the perfect yacht for you. Together with the captain of your yacht, we will then design an itinerary for you according to your wishes.
What details does the charter contract contain?
In order to ensure maximum safety for all involved parties we use the standardized MYBA charter agreements. The agreement contains all the details regarding the yacht and crew, charter region, insurance information, and the terms and conditions and costs for your ship.
What are the terms of payment?
50% of the agreed charter fee is payable when the contract is signed. The remainder – together with the APA and any transfer costs – is due one month before the charter begins, this remainder being retained in trust by the central agent until the end of the voyage.
What is an Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA)?
All the running costs, e.g. fuel, food and drink for the guests, demurrage, communication costs, etc. are paid for from the APA. The APA generally amounts to 25% of the charter fee.
During the cruise the captain will carefully account for all expenses and, at the end of the charter, will present the charterer with a detailed statement of accounts and receipts. Any unused APA funds shall immediately be returned to the charterer and, likewise, any shortfall shall immediately be payable by the charterer.
Who decides on the itinerary?
On the basis of your preferences, the captain of your charter yacht and we work out together a tailor-made itinerary for you. It will take into account the distances to cover, the cruising speed of the yacht but most of all your interests and desires. Still, during a yacht charter vacation it is you who dictates the rhythm not the clock or an appointment book. And your captain will do his very best to realise even spontaneous ideas.
What port of departure do I choose?
As the starting point for your voyage, we recommend a port within easy reach of an international airport. Naturally, the captain of your yacht will personally take care of your transfer when you arrive and depart.
What are transfer costs?
Normally, the charter areas and the home port for the season are defined precisely by the yacht owners at the beginning of the year. If your yacht of choice is not in the charter area you require or the preceding charter has been booked for a port of destination which is not your starting point, transfer costs may incur. We will negotiate them separately.
Does the crew get a tip?
Whether and with what sum you wish to reward the crew for their work on board over and above the wages included in the charter agreement is left to your discretion. A tip of about 10% of the charter price is generally considered fair.
